In the last few years, I have gone from thinking that using books to decorate your personal space is a waste of time, to having the mindset of ‘Well, I have read this book once and I am not sure if I will read it again, but…the cover is beautiful…I might as well use it for something’.
I now have several clusters of books around my house, arranged in ways that are pleasing to the eye.
I grew up surrounded by books: my Mum was a Lawyer, so we had a bookshelf full of her law books. She was also a voracious reader of fiction books, especially those written by John Grisham, James Patterson, Wilbur Smith and Jeffrey Archer. I miss discussing books with her.
She bought my brothers and I several of Enid Blyton’s series of books, including the Famous Five and Secret Seven.
One of my favourite pastimes is searching the hashtag #bookstagram or #shelfie on Instagram just so I can enjoy the creative ways in which people around the world have chosen to display their books. It’s very calming and delightful to see.
I love the idea that books, for me, now serve a dual purpose: to feed my mind and my eyes.
I hope you are having a great weekend.

This is so interesting, I often wonder the same thing if there’s any point in having physical books, especially as you can get them much cheaper online, but they do make some good decor!

I see your point. I now enjoy having a lot of books around me because of the pleasure that they bring me when I see them nicely arranged.
Thanks for reading 🙏🏾
